Florian Bechtel is a PhD student from the University of Hamburg, on the CMS experiment, on a four-month MCnet studentship in Lund. He attended the 2007 MCnet school in Durham.

My Ph.D. project deals with measuring multiple parton-parton scatterings with the CMS detector at LHC. In particular, I study final states with one photon and three jets where the aim is to identify two separate parton-parton scatterings in the same proton-proton interaction (one scattering producing a photon-jet pair, the other one producing a dijet pair).

During my short-term studentship, I will work on the simulation and modelling of these kind of events with the Pythia event generator. One aspect of my project will be the implementation of rescattering (i.e. more than one scatterings of the same parton) into Pythia.
