Magdalena Slawinska was a PhD student from the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, on a four-month MCnet studentship in Durham.

The aim of my studentship was to get familiar with Herwig++ Parton Shower and POWHEG scheme of matching Parton Shower with the hard process. I also compared the effects of different recoil strategies used in the shower algorithm on transverse momentum distributions of vector bosons in Drell-Yan processes. These studies were inspired by the collinear factorisation of Curci-Furmanski-Petronzio that my group in Krakow customises for the NLO Parton Shower. During my stay I submitted two papers for publication:
